I won the lottery!!!

…and I’m buying everyone a car. Okay, so North Carolina has yet to actually implement the lottery, so I did in fact, not win the lottery. I did however get an extra bag of chips out of the vending machine today- As the little spring was unable to dispense my snack of choice, it overcompensated and spat out two- count them TWO! bags of TGI Friday’s Potato Skins snack chips. It’s always nice when luck, of God or the Flying Spaghetti Monster smiles down on you from above.

I can be one of those crazy superstitious whatsits with very little prompting, most often with sporting events. With televised games if my team does well, I know I have to diligently keep watching so they have my support- it’s like a butterfly effect thing- if I get up for a beer and don’t make it back before the break is over, then Steve Bartman snags the long fly and crushes the Cubs’ chance at a Wolrd Series. Like for instance the NFL playoffs here. Last weekend after a killer Steelers/Colts matchup my attention was sort of lax on the Panthers/Bears game. I like both teams, but as the game started, I began to realize that my love for the underdog was winning out- I wanted to see the Bears win. Not that the Bears went into the game as underdogs, they killed the Panthers during the regular season, but I really felt the outcome of the game was going to be a Panthers win, which it was. So this week, I dutifully watched the Steelers game, and came to the realization that I want the Steelers to win the XL. I want Bettis to have his ring and I want Ben to be the 2nd youngest QB to take it all the way. After Denver goes home crying Sunday, the Panther’s game started up again, and I wasn’t really that interested. I don’t want to root against them in any circumstance, so I guess I kinda was hoping they wouldn’t win and the Steelers could go on to beat the every loving crap out of the Seattle-why-do-we-even-have-a-football-team-anyway?-Seahawks. So I guess I made the Panthers lose Sunday. Sorry guys, we’ll get them next year.

Speaking of luck, saw Woody Allen’s Matchpoint this weekend, and enjoyed it. It really came across as two different movies though, the second of which, was a Woody Allen film, the first of which was not. The 2nd act was a little long for what it accomplished and established, and I didn’t really like the characters enough. So on the whole nothing really stood out other than the detatchment of everything, but I like some of the ideas (and existentialism) woven in an out, especially the luck angle and how it relates to life. Or say, a career choice… because everything is subjective.
Now for a non-relevant baby picture of me.

power’s back

Bandwidth monster knocked me offline for a few hours, so if you by some chance came looking for my gloating over this weekend’s games, and found some funky german 404, then please accept my apologies. I will now commence gloating:
Steelers man. I don’t care what you say about that last FG attempt, it was their game. They wanted it. They got it. Despite the fix being in, which I think everyone can agree upon. You know and it’s not even just the Bettis thing, the Steelers are one of the most entertaining teams to watch in the NFL, bar none. They come out there and run plays people laugh at, but where are they now? In the record books for being the first no. 6 seed to beat a no. 1 and advance. Say whatever you want, you bunch of whiners, my XL is now locked- Steelers vs. Panthers in Detroit.
Hung out at Cory’s on the weekend, he’s getting geared up to lock himself away for another semester, but it’s always fun and relaxing down Gville way. He doesn’t do much football, but that’s what the post-season is for, the best of the best and some heartstopping matchups. (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/nfl/specials/playoffs/2005/01/17/bc.fbn.heart.stoppingst.ap/index.html) Meanwhile I was just oscillating between joy and fury during that last quarter. It was nutso.
Didn’t watch the Golden Globes, am a little lukewarm this year on most of the comps just because I don’t have any huge favorites to root for. Am however curious about what Harrison for was drinking. (http://www.whatevs.org/2006_01_15_whatevs_archive.html#113747057667559427) Gin and tonic perhaps? Mmmm. I need to buy some tonic when I head home tonight. Also apparently there was a cut to Zach Braff as Mr. Ford was coming on stage (http://www.whatevs.org/images/dailypics/06_01/ford_globes3.JPG)- and he looks so angry. Maybe worry about the spoof of Raiders of the Lost Ark that was in this week’s episode of Scrubs. Speaking of Scrubs, little Jack is soooooooooooo cute.
Added Max to the blogroll as she has now fallen prey to the evils of the blog thanks to Pooks. Such is the world these days.
Competition-time creeping up like the malicious LOST-beast that it is. I would appreciate it if all associates would enforce physical violence to my person in general as a motivation technique. You know, not so much The Deer Hunter, but something along the lines of An Officer and a Gentleman. (Louis Gossett Jr rocks!)
Speaking of LOST, I really enjoyed Echo’s episode up until the Island monster bit. Vibed of shark jump. But I gave this week a look, still pretty strong, but Locke hasn’t effused his badass-ness in a while. Also I hate Charlie. Michael’s gone off the deep end, and whatever, good for him, the psycho, but Charlie annoys me. So much that I don’t even feel the need to explain.
That’s it for me, I do have a new obsession to rant about, but it’s going to take a full post here shortly and I want to general some evidence to present with it. Whenever I get around to it.

*pouts*

Getting around to watching the Doctor Who Christmas Special, which is pretty amusing. The Royals on the roof cracks me up. But I have one singular gripe- You can’t make me like David Tennant! I want Christopher Eccleston back dammit.

mind wanderings

It struck me today that I recall that Jan 11th my childhood friend, Valerie’s birthday. I havening seen Val in God knows how many years. I think I ran across her in the mall once when I was in college, but at home for the Hols, so I don’t know why it is that it sticks in my head. I almost always remember that 1/11 is Val’s birthday. Child-brain cement I guess. Happy Birthday to Val, where’er she may be and I hope all is well. It makes me feel guilty because I tend to forget other friends’ birthdays. Like J, whose birthday is the 9th which just ALSO happens to be fictional character Severus Snape’s birthday. Both of which I blanked on this year. Happy birthday to both J and Snape, even if it’s a little late.

Last night was a killer episode of HOUSE which I’ve learned was written by a friend of a friend. It also featured a kiss. So citing some theorhetical physics that would be waaaay too complicated to explain in this brief update, you might say that I am somehow microscopically involved with Hugh Laurie’s lips. Yes. I would say that. And no, I am not too preoccupied with them, thank you very much.
LOST is back tonight and I am very very happy. Locke and Crew. The Locke show. Whatever. Needless to say I’ll probably be back to rant about it later.
