Betsy and her craziness has a new website (which I helped her with minutely) over at http://www.bliveentertainment.com with all the infos on the NYC party scene. Not being in NYC, I can’t much take advantage, but it’s fun to live vicariously through that crazy hoor, whom I have nothing but affection for. She also has some infos up about cool music, which I can take advantage of, such as her mention of Belle and Sabastian, who do indeed rock. I need to get around to catching one of their shows if I ever get some free time.
Also of note is that Megan and Jeremy and myself went to Tommy Lee Jones’ The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada and I have to say, I’ve kinda been a little embarassed by my love of Mr. J for a while lately, but he’s got himself a nice little film. It’s sorta creepy, and full of really disturbing imagery, and left me thinking something is indeed mentally wrong with him, but I liked it. Nicely crafted. Gritty but at the same time sort of ethereal, or sublime. Good performances all around, but I still get the impression TLJ has stopped really consciously ‘acting’. He does this thing now, and it really was after US Marshals when I started to notice, but it’s so conservative and veiled. It’s off-putting, but for Pete Perkins, it was perfect, because the guy is just there. I might do a deeper review because I really was looking forward to it, and it’s a really nice film. Definitely merits some examination- which I can’t say for most of the stuff I’ve been catching lately. Whim, baby.
I cut, designed and produced a DVD in three days at work. Day three was spent animating some map zoom dealie which almost killed me. I haven’t used Flash in 3 years. It’s done, and it’s something for three days, but ugh. Those were some long ass days. Not so much fun, but I haven’t edited jack since I got out of college, so it’s something. I don’t really have an inherent talent for editing, I don’t think. Really good editing takes a lot of effort, or a lot of talent, and I’m stretched so thin I haven’t been able to train up that skill set. Not to mention my ‘eye’ has suffered in the gap as well. Don’t know if I had realized that before, but I need to get back into practice and sharpen those up. I’m going to dust off the old Bolex and shoot something, but I need to order some Double8 cause no one sells that stuff. Anywhere. Then it’s gotta be all transferred, which ain’t too bad these days. Anyway, that’s something I want to do if I can find the time.
But most of it is going to el scripto mania right now, since May is coming up. Gonna skip Blue Kat this year and just get N&D in good clean shape for the others. Feels like it’s got a hint of substance for once. Can always use another reader, though, so hit me up if you’re willing.
The Waffle House will now accept credit/debit cards.
Rejoice!
Arrrg! I’m not so much happy about this: The sequel to Batman Begins could become an Australian affair now that Hugo Weaving and Hugh Jackman are in the running to play villains. The two Aussie movie stars are the latest names linked to play The Joker and Harvey ‘Two Face’ Dent in the upcoming superhero adventure, according to moviehole.net. Producers are yet to nail down a firm list of candidates for Two-Face, but Firewall star Paul Bettany and another Aussie, Lachy Hulme, are reportedly being considered for the role of The Joker. Can we stay away from my favorite characters please? And isn’t it some sort of space time continuum impossibility to have the actor playing Marvel’s Wolverine also play DC’s Harvey Dent? Huh?! Isn’t it? Damn you! Just stop screwing with my childhood joys! Hugo wouldn’t be too bad, but age-wise he seems off. Harv should be closer to Bruce’s age, or midway between Bruce and Jim. Gah! No matter how much I demanded that the next Batman movie be The Long Halloween or Dark Victory, now that we’re even edging toward that I feel HORROR! Here’s hoping I over react.
Tis cold here, which only warrants comment because every third day it hits 70 and then plummets back down to 20s. Weather is annoying. Especially when it might potentially snow. Wow, gone are the days when snow was like the magicallest of all happenings. The main annoyance now is just that people are freaking tards and going out to enjoy the snow would just put my life at risk. I still kinda dig it, but I don’t have a gang to play with anymore, and the hills keep getting turned into boulevards and bypasses and greenways. Whatever.
Meanwhile my Christmas tree is still up. I’m pondering just leaving it up until September when me lease is up and I can move out of this GOD FORSAKEN SUCK-HOLE that is my apartment. I like it, but if the bathroom floods again, I’m going to have an aneurysm. I took Friday off to work on my script, and first thing in the morning to toliet cracks, drips, shatters and endup with books in my freezer. And my management landpeople company are apparently remnants of the Third Reich. I have to call them tomorrow and I’m just going to say, “Look talking to you people makes my ears bleed, so lets you know, just not ever do that again, thanks.” I’d totally give my soul away for a good cause, but it seems like these folks just keep taking it sliver by sliver.
As always busy, managing to allocate script time, so it’s moving a long little by little toward something that will hopefully be readable. Yes, probably deluding myself again, but such is existance.
Ugh, to sleep perchance…
Stealing a second to get my blog on, just to keep the front page dusted, lots to do. My crazy friend Betsy needs a website, so I’m going to set that up for her and hand it off to her. Using Mambo which is friendly and simple if you give it proper attention, and I think it will work out nicely for her. Meanwhile since I’m doing this I’m playing with some ideas for templates for Mary and my Mother since they’re on the to-make-sites-for list as well. Their stuff is a little more complicated because they’re looking to retail, and don’t know nuthin bout no shopping carts. But I’m good at picking things up.
Script-wise I am unable to give myself a break from Nickel & Dime. I guess you’re supposed to take time off, but it’s stuck in my head, and I feel slack. Plus, plus, plus it’s gotta rock. I have to make it rock. Scripts ain’t cheese, they do not get better with age. It’s my experience the quality depreciates with time- that is to say, all my old scripts suck. I’ll be the first to throw the blanket of suck over, well everything I do, but really it’s not because I’m too critical, it’s because it just actually sucks. My reality has some weird black hole-water-light bending physics going on. It’s only good as long as I have enthusiam for it, the second that preposterously short attention-span gets on something else it all belongs in the realm of suck. That’s just the way it works. That said, I’m still pretty enthused about Nickel & Dime, I like the characters and the idea as it exists in my mind, so the revision process is an attempt to get that dreamy delusion to translate on the finished page. This is what I fail miserably at. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Cory and I are doing this thing for this contest with this game- which involves animating/scripting a little movie. The game is ‘The Movies’ and I will wait to convulutedly explain it later, (when I have a new videocard and can take decent screenshots, that is), but it has the potential for teh Funny. We gotta animate it first and then record the dialogue, but it’s not going to be very difficult I think. Just another item on the 18 million things I seem to be doing right now.
XL this weekend! Stillers shall prevail! I’m gonna eat some hot wings! (Assuming Megan & Jeremy have any. If not, I’ll bring some hotwings!)
All right back to work. Vaya Con Dios, amigos!
